SNOWY EGRET

Snowy egrets are simply beautiful. They have this amazing ability to appear completely different at times; one moment the feathers are laid back and relaxed, the next moment they are flaring a cockatoo-style crest on top. If you’re lucky enough to see one in breeding plumage, the display gets even more exotic, exploding with wispy filaments. Like many wading birds in Florida, snowy egrets are currently facing unprecedented threat from pythons and other invasive species.

Although smaller than some of its big heron cousins, a snowy egret actively fishing is truly a thing to behold. Wading into the water while rapidly wiggling and shaking its yellow feet, the snowy performs an agile dance that scares fish and crustaceans up from the bottom, then the egret snaps them up in the blink of an eye.

My original oil painting “Snowy In Florida” is 36 x 36 inches on canvas, and depicts an adult bird perched in branches over the water. Thanks for your interest in this snowy egret art—I hope it inspires you to cherish the natural beauty of Florida’s wildlife.
